The club are excited to announce the ‘Alumni Support Program’, with a focus on ensuring the long term sustainability of the Diamond Girls Baseball Academy. ‘Diamond Girls’, established in 2019 to grow participation of junior girls in the local community, has gone from strength to strength over it’s first two editions. With 11 new players in 2020, and then 17 in 2021, the club is pushing for more than 20 participants in 2022.
With the support of a number of grant program in it’s first two seasons, the organisers are conscious that the program cannot continue in the long-term with a reliance on grant funding every year.
“In order to continue offering a great program each season, and finding new ways to recruit local girls from within our community, there are costs involved”, said Simone Wearne, one of the Diamond Girls coaches. “The alumni program is not only an opportunity to call on those currently or previously involved with the Big Cat Chicks, it is also a chance to ensure we are keeping our little family connected. The Alumni Program provides an opportunity for our people to support the long-term sustainability of the women’s program, along with keeping them involved in some capacity – even if it is not in the same way they used to be”.
The Alumni Support Program seeks a $20 donation annually, with all funds going directly to supporting the Diamond Girls Baseball Academy each season.

On behalf of the club, we say a big thank you to those of you who have already made a contribution and can’t wait to showcase the Diamond Girls again in 2021/22. Stay tuned for details of our Diamond Girls Alumni event that will include a Diamond Girls game on the main diamond at Springy late in the season. The game will take place as a curtain raiser to a Women’s Division One game, with all alumni invited to attend and support both current, and future women’s players.
