Div 1 Big Cats win 2013/2014 Flag!

On a great day for the club, the Division One girls wrapped up a big season by winning another Premiership.  It seemed only fitting in their 20th anniversary season that they would put themselves in a winning position.  A credit to the work the girls do and their commitment to the Springy women’s program.

Defeating a gallant Footscray in a close 6-3 encounter, the girls never said die, coming back from a 3-2 down scoreline in the fifth to secure their 6th Premiership Flag (7th including the Berwick/Springvale win).

In a game that was always going to be a battle, the girls fought from the start, Vic Brown the star throwing a complete game scattering only a few hits over 7 innings.  Facing the hard throwing import from Canada, Amanda Asay was also in good form on the hill, making it difficult for Springvale to score.

Standouts with the bat were Shaeka with two, including a lead off double to start the game, and a two RBI single in the fifth to bring the score back in Springy’s favour.  Shevy also had a couple of great hits, as did DH Cat Row, who took on a different role this year and did a great job when it counted with the bat.  Hits also to Shannas, Houghy and Kel.

A great team effort this year, with players standing up when it counted and really fighting to the end.  Even those who weren’t playing their best made a contribution, and that’s what being part of a successful team is all about.

Great work girls, the club is very proud of you all.1926935_754206784590353_919767786_n
