Big Cat women’s program head coach Simone Wearne has just returned from a short visit to Japan. Simone in her role as head coach of the Australian women’s team was on a brief goodwill and fact finding mission on behalf of Australian Baseball.
Whilst in Japan Simone met with officials of the Japanese Women’s Baseball League hoping to foster relationships and increase the exposure of the league back here in Australia possibly providing more opportunities for some of our elite women’s players.
During her time in Japan she managed to catch up with our own Shae Lillywhite the only non-Japanese currently playing in the league as well as former Big Cat import Risa Nakashima currently enjoying a very successful season capped with selection in the league’s all-star game.
The all-star game was on during Simone’s time in Japan and she was lucky enough to don the Aussie no 52 uniform one more time when she was afforded the honour of throwing the opening pitch.
Also on the agenda whilst in Japan were discussions on arrangements for next year’s upcoming World Cup tournament which appears likely to be played in Japan.
The club has been looking forward to Simone’s return so that she may resume her role in overseeing the recently commenced women’s pre season training and complete preparations for the forthcoming season where the club has once again entered 3 teams.
