Scott Wearne Named Club Coach

The Springvale Lions Baseball Club is proud and excited to announce the appointment of Scott Wearne as Club Coach for season 2013/2014. Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and experience back to the club where he began his playing career 25 years ago.

Scott has a great history with Springvale, beginning his career as a 4 year old in the tee- ball program. He played all through juniors, and was only 15 when he made his debut with the Men’s Firsts in Division Two back in 1997. ‘Scotty’ has spent a number of years away from the club in order to focus his attention on playing at the highest level, but there was never a doubt that he would one day return to the Big Cats.

Over the years, Scott’s accomplishments have included the following:

 Junior State and VIS teams

 U/19 Australian Team, World Championships in Canada (2000)

 All World Third Baseman, World Championships in Canada (2000)

 Chipola Junior College Baseball Program

 Nicholls State College Baseball Program

 Drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates

 3 x Division One Premierships with Waverley Baseball Club

 Claxton Shield Title (2010)

 Australian Senior Team, World Cup in Panama (2011)

 Member of the Melbourne Aces 2011 to current

As the club look to approach the future in a positive, fresh and professional manner, we believe Scott is the ideal person to guide our club forward, especially our junior players. The club has tasted much success with its women’s program over the past 10 years, and there is no doubt that after some very hard work with our juniors in recent times, it is time to be looking for our men’s program to rise to the challenges that lay ahead.

With a very supportive executive and committee, and now a talented and reputable Club Coach, it is an exciting time for the Big Cats!
