Arriving at Springvale after a couple of years away from the baseball diamond and with no professional baseball experience, it’s been a big ten months for 2017-18 import Christian DeLeon, who continues to go from strength-to-strength back home in America.
Christian enjoyed a successful season with the Big Cats, winning eight games, while recording a 1.36 era and 0.76 whip, and during the 2017-18 summer season was called up to the ABL for his first experience as a professional baseballer. In his one outing with the Melbourne Aces, Christian threw 2.2 innings against the Perth Heat, striking out four hitters, including Southern Thunder representative and former Major Leaguer, Luke Hughes.
Back in America, Christian has linked with Frontier League team, the Florence Freedom, and after getting up to the speed of the League, has flourished in his role as a starter for the Freedom, winning four straight decisions en route to a 4-3 win-loss record to go with a 3.66 era and 1.05 whip over his eight starts.
Christian was last week named as the league’s Pitcher of the Week following an appearance that saw him throw seven innings for just one hit and no runs while striking out eight Traverse City hitters.
With a nine game lead on the West Division, the Freedom are playoff bound in 2018, meaning in September, Christian will get to show his wares in the final four for the Frontier League. We will keep you posted with Christian and his teams’s progress.
