After 12 years in the role of Club President, Simone Wearne has announced that 2016/17 will be her final season at the helm. A player who began playing t-ball with the club back in 1986, Simone has gone on to become a long time member of the Big Cats Women’s program as a player and coach, a junior coach for a number of years in the old t-ball and under 12 program, plus a player in various men’s teams.
A former general committee member, Simone took on the Presidency 12 years ago, a role that she has enjoyed, despite the various ups and down it has presented her with. “In a club environment where you are doing your best for the club as a whole, but attempting to also look out for individual interests as well – it can be difficult,” said Wearne. “There are many personalities involved in any club, so the reality is, it’s always going to be hard to keep everyone happy. I feel like I have given my heart and soul to the Springvale Baseball Club. The place has been and will always be a big part of my family”.
“Although I have enjoyed my time as President, I strongly believe that the club needs someone with new ideas and a new vision to ensure the Big Cats continue developing in all areas into the future”.
Simone acknowledged the support that she has received over the years, noting that she always had help from many club members each season. “The great thing about our club is that there are often good people willing to help out. Darryl Rosewall continues to work really hard behind the scenes, putting in many hours. And most recently, Mandi Avent has really committed and has taken on a huge amount within various programs. Both of them have made my life a lot easier over the years and I cannot thank them enough”.
“I would like to thank the club for allowing me to spend 12 years in this role, and providing me the platform to learn and grow as not only a baseball person, but as a person in general. The things I have learnt and lessons I have been taught have really helped shape the person I am today”. Simone also commented on her future with the club – “I have spent a significant period of my life at the club and have no plans to not be involved in the future. I am excited to continue working with the junior program and the women’s programs moving forward”.
The club wishes to thank Simone for her continued service, in particular her 12 years as President. The Big Cats will now spend some time over the summer considering potential replacements for the position. If you know of someone who may be an ideal candidate, please feel free to discuss this with the committee.
