The Springvale Lions Baseball Club is pleased to announce the signing of pitcher Michael Suk as the clubs import player for the 2016-17 Division One campaign.
An imposing figure on the mound, Suk measures 6’5” and comes to KH Wearne Field, having followed a pathway to independent ball that is somewhat similar to that experienced by recently departed head coach Scott Wearne, having attended Chipola College, before moving onto Nicholls State University.
Suk was an all-round athlete through his High School days, showing his hitting prowess, with a triple and home run to help Randolph High School to the sectional championship, and was a three-year starter as the school’s starting football quarterback, while being a captain of the football team for two seasons. He was also an accomplished wrestler, becoming champion of Morris County at district and region levels for three successive years.
The right-handers baseball journey at professional level began in 2013 when he joined Laredo in the American Association midway through the season, and split time between the starting rotation and the bullpen for the rest of the season, as he did in 2014, with the Lemurs finishing second in their division in both seasons.
Early in 2015, Laredo traded Suk to Sussex County, an expansion team in the Can-Am League, and became the first player to sign for the Miners, despite having been traded for ‘a player to be named later’. Like his time at Laredo, Suk has split his time between the starting rotation and the bullpen, however for the 2016 season he spent a majority of his time in the rotation, starting a career high thirteen games and winning seven.
Suk will arrive at the club in early October and said “I am very excited to get the opportunity to play baseball in a different country. I also look forward to meeting the team and coaches and get to work to win a championship.”
