Last Saturday 13th February we hosted our first ever Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the club. It was a fantastic day that was supported and attended by many from around the club, plus some very supportive Essendon players and coaches.
It was a huge effort by all, with several players turning up the day before, and early on the morning of the event to get the grounds looking nice, and prepare for our huge cake stall. We had hundreds and hundreds of cakes made and donated by our generous members, family and supporters, along with some fantastic donated items that we were able to raffle and auction.
The club was overwhelmed by the support from within our own club, and also externally.
Unfortunately, after a huge day and massive effort by all, a very large sum of money went missing (sometime between 3pm and 4pm) on the day of the event at our cake stall. The club executive, committee and it’s loyal members are heartbroken and gutted, and have suffered some sleepless nights over the weekend. This is a horrible turn of events, and we are lost for words.
We still hold hope that someone may have mistakenly picked up the missing money, and it will return anonymously into our club account in the near future.
At this stage, the police have been notified of the events of the weekend, and some in attendance may be questioned during the week. With some hard work again yesterday, and many more cakes sold through the canteen (and more hats), the club has managed to make back the money spent to purchase the pink hats, but unfortunately, no money has been raised towards cancer awareness. We will look to run another fundraiser at some point to rectify this situation.
The committee would like to thank those who contributed, whether it be by volunteering their time, or the many dollars that were given in support of a great cause.
If you saw anything on the weekend that you feel may be of assistance in helping us locate the missing money, please notify the President on the following email address:
