The Springvale Lions Baseball Club are excited to announce that we have secured a women’s import for the coming season. Rieko Abe, a left-handed hitting outfielder and first baseman from Japan will be arriving in Melbourne on September 30th in time for the first game of the season.
The club has a proud history of hosting women’s imports over the years, from Japan and Canada. A great chance to not only add a player to the women’s playing list, but to continue encouraging the cultural exchange that our whole club has come to enjoy in both our men’s and women’s programs.
‘Abe’ is a member of the Samurai Women’s Baseball Team in Japan, a team who has visited the Big Cats twice in the past. Samurai are famous for having two previous Lions players – Risa Nakashima and Kei Matsumoto.
Abe is 25 years old and has been playing baseball since the fourth grade. She enjoys playing baseball with her friends in Japan and is very excited to play baseball with Springvale in Australia. She will also be attending an English school whilst she is here.
The club looks forward to hosting her throughout the coming season, and hopes that all club members will say hi and welcome Abe when she arrives later in September.
