The Springvale Lions Baseball Club are pleased to announce the appointment of Simone Wearne as Junior Co-ordinator for the 2016/17 summer season.
A long time player and coach at the club, Simone will run all aspects of the Junior Program, including coach recruitment and up-skilling, program organisation, plus the inclusion of a club high performance training program that will be offered free of charge to all junior Big Cats players.
The Current National Women’s Team Coach, and Club President is excited to take on a new role after many years being involved in other areas.
Wearne had the following to say when asked about her appointment to the role…
“I have been involved in some junior coaching roles at the club for a long time and have focused heavily on the women’s program at the club for over 20 years. I believe it’s the right time to turn my focus to another area and probably the most important one for our club moving forward – our juniors”.
“I’m excited to work closely with various members of the club to ensure we have the right coaches in place, structured training sessions and the opportunity for players to learn more about the game – whether they be beginners or elite players”.
“I’m excited to be continuing another chapter in junior baseball at the club. The likes of Mick Wearne, Peter Gelsi, Peter Higgins, Rob Hogan, Benny Rosewall and Brad Hughes have provided a great pathway for past juniors at our club and they are all still involved in some capacity. It is my hope that I can assist in leading and developing all of our junior players”.
